Ordered on launch day and it arrived beautifully packed. The mirror-polished cushion case is the star of the show; the black lacquer dial is stricter than any of my dress watches. The Premier calfskin strap with the little metal emblem is a lovely touch.

Elegantísimo y mucho más fino de lo que esperaba para 44 mm. Le quito una estrella porque la piel vacuno Premier viene firme los primeros días, hasta que se hace a la muñeca; a partir del tercero, perfecta.

THE CUSHION CASE

A study in proportion

The cushion case abandons the mere role of a container. Its profiles, robust yet softened, rest upon the wrist with natural poise; every angle has been smoothed and polished so that the piece glides without friction beneath the cuff of an Egyptian cotton shirt. The etiquette of fine dressing, applied to steel

THE DIAL

A black that absorbs the light

It is the only dial in the series without a gradient: a flat black lacquer, a single, highly pigmented coat, so that all the light belongs to the indices. Against that ground, the dauphine hands and lance-shaped indices, faceted and mirror-polished, cut like a stiletto. The evening dress code taken to steel

The gown
that gave its name

to the watch

Around 1907, at the Palazzo Orfei in Venice, Mariano Fortuny and Henriette Negrin created the Delphos gown: a hand-pleated silk tunic, inspired by the chiton of the Charioteer of Delphi, which fell freely over the body and freed women from the corset. Fortuny understood, before anyone else, that light is matter. The Delphos Series 193 takes up that baton: the dials shift in tone with every turn of the wrist, like the pleats of the tunic, while the sharp geometry of indices and hands recalls the tailor’s needle
