THE CUSHION CASE

A study in proportion

The cushion case abandons the mere role of container. Its profiles, robust yet softened, sit upon the wrist with natural poise; every angle has been smoothed and polished so the piece glides without friction beneath the cuff of an Egyptian cotton shirt. The etiquette of fine dressing, rendered in steel

THE DIAL

The lees of a fine wine

The crimson is worked in sunburst over brass and veiled with a black fumé that closes towards the edge of the case: at the centre it burns, at the rim it fades. With each turn of the wrist the dial shifts, like the heavy silk of a tie. The indices and hands, in polished steel, provide the cool counterpoint

The gown
that gave the watch

its name

Around 1907, at the Palazzo Orfei in Venice, Mariano Fortuny and Henriette Negrin created the Delphos gown: a hand-pleated silk tunic, inspired by the chiton of the Charioteer of Delphi, that fell freely over the body and freed women from the corset. Fortuny understood before anyone that light is matter. The Delphos Series 193 takes up that mantle: the dials shift in tone with every turn of the wrist, like the pleating of the tunic, and the sharp geometry of indices and hands recalls the tailor’s needle
