THE CASE · 200 METRES

Built for the wipeout

A fall at 50 km/h against a wall of salt water demands an instrument conceived to absorb the ocean’s violence. The 41 mm steel case, the rotating bezel with knurled edge and a water resistance of 200 metres withstand the G-forces of impact, the abrasion of suspended sand and the corrosion of the brine. The oversized, luminescent hour markers can be read in a fraction of a second, between the blindness of the spray and the glare of the sun

THE DIAL

A wind you carry on your wrist

The red of the Levante ignites at the centre and darkens towards the edge, like the sky over Tarifa when the easterly blows at forty knots. Diamond markers and white lume hands to read the time between the gusts

The wind
that gave the watch

its name

The Strait of Gibraltar is a geographical funnel: a corridor where mythology placed the Pillars of Hercules and where the landscape accelerates the wind until it becomes something physical, hard and tangible. Tarifa began life as a fishing enclave battered by storms, but in the eighties a tribe of windsurfing pioneers discovered that this climatic anomaly was the ultimate canvas. Today the Valdevaqueros cove is the wind capital of Europe, and the Hydra Serie 229 carries that extreme resilience into mechanical watchmaking: steel, 200 metres and a legibility conceived to read the time through the spray
