A 42 mm round case with a double-domed sapphire crystal that returns the light like the lens of an optical instrument. Two pushers command the chronograph; the knurled crown bears the engraved emblem, while the case flank carries a screwed plaque inscribed with the expedition’s name. Felipe Bauzá was the expedition’s chief cartographer. As the corvettes rounded Cape Horn and sailed north to the ice of Alaska, his hands drew nautical charts of astonishing precision for their time: coastlines, soundings, latitudes. The Bitácora de Hielo carries his craft upon its dial, with concentric scales, exact numerals and the white of chart paper, alongside the blue of the cold waters he drew
